Haiti Earthquake Blog and Twitter Resources

Kurt Cagle's picture

The magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Haiti earlier today had left devastation in it's wake - tens, if not hundreds of thousands dead, millions missing, and much of the city of Port-au-Prince flattened. While this is not XMLToday's ordinary beat for me, as one who has been through a couple of earthquakes this resonates strongly with me. I'm be pulling together a list of syndication and twitter feed links here - please feel free to add to the list if you come across one I haven't listed yet.

  1. Truthout Live Update
  2. Twitter Haiti Earthquake Tweets
  3. White House.gov Haiti Earthquake Site
  4. Emily Troutman, UN Citizen Ambassador, Twitter Feed
  5. www.NationalNursesUnited.com , for volunteering or providing support
  6. Hotel Montana Facebook page, clearinghouse for missing persons
  7. http://twitter.com/ramhaiti, for on the ground updates
  8. American Red Cross Haiti Updates
  9. http://blogs.dfid.gov.uk/2010/01/haiti-the-first-wave-of-humanitarian-help/

I'll be adding more links periodically as I come across them, and please let me know if you have other resources regarding this terrible tragedy.

Update: I've also added a syndication page pulling in relevant tweets and news at http://www.xmltoday.org/haiti (or just click on the Haiti Earthquake tab at the top of the site page).

Update 2: As per usual, Google Earth can provide a disturbing sense reality to what is, for many, just a news story. Google has recently set up KML providing very recent satellite imagery of Port-au-Prince, and the devastation shown in and around the site is just gut-wrenching:
